Fanatic XXIII game one. Major loss against Ravenwing. With lots of plasmatalons, multi-melta attack bikes and Standard of Devastation boosted twin-linked boltguns this bike horde quickly killed my army.
As a side note. I like how having the Standard of Devastation on a ravenwing command squad allows it to move in the shooting phase and boost more units.
My spring tournament list
I’m going to participate in a 1995 pts 40k tournament this weekend. How to do a good Dark Angel list is a tricky one, especially since I didn’t want to paint a whole lot of new stuff. This is what I came up with. Hopefully It will work.
My Warlord will be Belial, so I can get a few extra troop units and perhaps a precise deep strike. He will probably be accompanied by a unit of Deathwing knights most of the time.
Belial unlocks a Deathwin command squad, allowing me to take the Standard of Devastation. This unit will ride in a Land Raider crusader to boost its fire-power until the time is ready to unleash their Thunder hammers and storm shields on the enemy. This unit will probably never get near Belial in a game.
My second HQ is a Librarian. He carries a power field generator and will probably spend most of the games running after the Land raider. He wears terminator armour for some additional protection and will probably have prescience to boost Thunder hammer and storshield Deathwing or Deathwing knights in close combat. He wont himself get into assaults though if I can help it.
My only elite unit is a unit of Deathwing knights. They will act as a sledgehammer unit and companions for Belial.
As troop choices I start with two units of Deathwing terminators (thanks to Belial). Both units have a cyclone missile launcher to give the army a little more anti tank options and one of the units have a chainfist (as I had five points to spare). I’m really troubled that the new Dark Angels faq prevents Deathwing sergeants from changing their weapons into something more useful than their standard power sword.
Finishing off the troops are two small squads of tactical space marines. Both with a missile launcher equipped with flakk missiles for some additional anti flyer possibilities. I don’t count on these guys to kill flyers though as the odds of their single strength 7 shot shall do lasting damage is slim. But hopefully they will be able to duck behind cover long enough to get to an objective in the end.
As a fast attack I have a Nephilim Jetfighter. As It can use its Lascannon on flyers it is the best anti flyer in my list and it can also shoot at land targets. Primary though its in the list as it looks nice and its fun to move around flyers. I have low expectations for it to achieve something.
Lastly is the real workhorse in the list. I have spent lots of points on this thing as I’m planing to boost it with both the power field generator and Standard of Devastation, hopefully with devastating effect. I haven’t play tested this though so it might be a disappointment…
I could have included two Land raider crusaders to double this effect, but as my second one isn’t looking as nice I have decided to take the Nephilim instead. If I will regret this choice of not will become clear after a game or two.
Wish me luck!
Vastatius est! Yea, im going for the Standard of Devastation! My wip next to my concept sketch.
Four layers of Green later…
My pledge for april will be atleast the devastators and aegis defence line and hopefully also the librarian and a techmarine.
My Nephilim Jetfighter finished. I’m satisfied with the white effects on the wings and the pilot but not the black areas. Black is a really hard colour to do right! o.O
Some 40k gaming
Today I wentured down the dragons lair for some 40k games. What originally was supposed to be a small tournament instead turned into a few games for fun as the organiser got a work emergency.
My first game was against a CSM list with lots of plague marines, some bikers, havocs, cultists and a hell drake. My bikers and tactical squads were quickly taken down, limiting my scoring opportunities and as it took three charge attempts to get my knights into combat ny situation quickly becane dire. The Hell drake proved night unstoppable. All contributing to a sevete defeat.
My second battle was against an Eldar force consisting of a farseer, dire avengers, bikes, guardians, striking scorpions, dark reapers and a wraith lord. The eldar quickly killed my ravenwing and the reapers killed heaps of marines before the knights assaulted and killed them (and the wraith lord). The dire avengers also had a field day against my infantery and was only briefly halted by my dreadnought, until the farseer killed it with her witchblade. I lost the game by one scenario point due to the extra points granted by killing fast attack units.
All in all good games. I have learned some necessary lessons about my army. I need to take better care of my ravenwing and perhaps the days of Rhinos isnt over as there are lots of anti infantery fire power out there. Also, I really liked the reciliance of the knights, but perhaps a librarian isnt the best hq to support them.
My 1200 pts Dark Angels list for tomorrows 40k tournament. As im under orders to not make a cheesey list Im gonna try a little of everything. This will probably not work so dont try this at home.
Fully assembled. Im Having trouble with getting the black to turn up smoth and im doing more and more errors, the latest one being a black fingerprint on the white wings. I just wish it to turn out good…
Deathwing knights, now with highlights and finishing details, just missing bases. Also the Knight master will get a banner in the future. I just have to come up with a concept.
This, or some if it, is my pledge for this month.
